Communications Center The University
Police Communications Center has a staff of 7 -- a
supervisor, 4 full time dispatchers, and 2 part time
dispatchers.
The
office is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Located
in the Police Department’s offices within the
Transportation Center, it is the hub of all manner of
communications pertaining to the police department,
including radios, pagers, and cell phones.
Dispatchers are trained and certified in
the use of the county-wide 911 computer aided dispatch
system, as well as the state Law Enforcement Automated
Data System (LEADS).
They are responsible for answering all
incoming phone calls to the police department’s primary
number (419.530.2600) and for sending the appropriate
public safety crews as needed. They are also able to
access out of state records and information through the
National Crime Information Center (NCIC) in Washington,
D.C. The Communications Center also
handles:
Emergency Phones – The
Communication Center serves as the answer point of the
campus emergency phone network.

Closed Circuit TV System – The staff in the
office also monitors the campus-wide CCTV system,
primarily the cameras in parking lots and on the
exterior of buildings.

Lost and Found – The office is also the main lost
and found repository for the University.

Burglar and Fire Alarms – The dispatchers also
monitor alarm receivers for all burglar and fire alarms
on campus.
