Unit has responded to the following situations:
1/19/04 Assist the U.S. Secret Service
Presidential visit
Performed explosives sweep of the area where the
President's helicopter, Marine 1, was staged during his
visit to Toledo. 3/1/04 Assist the
U.S. Secret Service Presidential candidate visit
Performed a sweep for explosives at the Student
Union, where Presidential candidate John Edwards was
scheduled to appear. Sweep also performed at the hotel
where he was staying. 3/26/04
University of Toledo, Law Center Auditorium Bomb
threat
The University Visitor Center received a phone call
indicating a bomb was going to go off in the Law Center
at 12:15 p.m., presumably in an effort to disrupt the
visit of a guest speaker. The UTPD K-9 was utilized to
sweep the area. No explosives were found.
4/7/04 University of Toledo VIP Lecture
Pre-event sweep and patrol of Doermann Theatre where
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was
scheduled to speak. Checks were also made at other
campus locations where Justice O'Connor was slated to
visit. 4/22/04 Assist the FBI and
Toledo Police Bomb threat
Numerous calls were made stating there were multiple
bombs in a south Toledo training center. The UTPD K-9
was utilized to sweep the area. No explosives were
found. 4/28/04 Assist the U.S.
Secret Service Presidential candidate visit
Performed a sweep for explosives at UAW Local 12
headquarters, where Presidential candidate Senator John
Kerry attended a rally. 4/29/04
Assist the U.S. Marshall Service Courthouse security
Performed sweeps of several areas in the Federal
Courthouse in preparation for an on-going high profile
federal court case. 4/30/04 Assist

Performed sweeps of several areas in the Federal
Courthouse in preparation for an on-going high profile

the U.S. Secret Service Presidential visit
Performed explosives sweep of the area where the
President's helicopter, Marine 1, was staged during his

Assisted in venue security in Maumee, where the
President attended a rally. 5/6/04

Performed sweeps of several areas in the Federal

the U.S. Secret Service Presidential candidate visit
Performed a sweep for explosives at Savage Hall,
where Presidential candidate Senator John Kerry attended
a high school graduation. 6/30/04
Assist the U.S. Coast Guard Port security
Performed a sweep of a freighter as part of joint
operation with the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs.
7/14/04 Assist the Sylvania Township Police
Department Tracking escaped felon
A man being transported to the Sylvania Municipal
Court from the Lucas County Jail escaped from the police
vehicle that was transporting him. A few hours after the
escape was detected, the UTPD K-9 was called in to
assist in the search. After searching for several hours
in many different areas, no good scent of the suspect
could be detected. 7/15/04 Assist
the Ohio Air National Guard Explosives detection
The UTPD K-9 Unit was called to assist in the
Operational Response Inspection for the 180th Air
National Guard Unit. The unit was responsible for
sweeping key operational facilities as well as cars that
were left unattended in parking lots.
7/19/04 Assist the U.S. Secret
Service Vice President visit
Performed a sweep for explosives at the Toledo
Express Airport for the Vice President. The K-9 Unit was
also responsible for sweeping the conference center
(Medical College of Ohio) where Vice President gave a
speech.
8/1/04 Assist the U.S. Secret
Service Presidential & Vice Presidential candidate
visit
Performed a sweep for explosives in Bowling Green,
Ohio, where Presidential candidate Senator John Kerry
and Vice Presidential candidate Senator John Edwards
attended a rally in the downtown area. The unit also
performed sweeps of the hangar area and campaign plane
at Toledo Express Airport.
8/8/04 Center of Science and
Industry (COSI) Safety Days
Participated in Safety Days, a program highlighting
safety and awareness in parents and children. The
program also introduced families to various emergency
resources available in Northwest Ohio.
8/9/04 Assist the U.S. Secret Service First Lady
visit
Performed a sweep for explosives at various
locations in preparation for the First Lady Laura Bush's
visit to Toledo. 8/11/04 Assist the
Sylvania Township Police Department Bomb threat
The UT Police K-9 Unit was called to assist on a
bomb threat made against the United States Post Office
on Monroe Street, in Sylvania Township. A check of the
area was conducted and no explosives were located.
8/21/04 Cleveland Browns home game

Assist the U.S. Secret Service Presidential visit
Performed an explosives sweep of Fort Meigs in
Maumee, Ohio, where President Bush attended a rally. The
K-9 unit was also responsible for providing ongoing
security at the Air National Guard Base in Swanton,
Ohio, where Air Force One was staging. After the plane
had arrived, the unit was charged with sweeping all
vehicles and equipment prior to their approach to Air
Force One, as well as conducting perimeter security
prior to and during departure. 9/3/04

where Presidential candidate Senator John Kerry attended
a rally.

Service Vice President visit
Performed a sweep for explosives at the Toledo
Express Airport for the Vice President. The K-9 Unit was
also responsible for sweeping the staging area for Air
Force Two. After the plane had arrived, the unit was
charged with sweeping all vehicles and equipment prior
to their approach to Air Force Two, as well as
conducting perimeter security prior to and during

Department Bomb threat
The UTPD K-9 Unit was called to assist on a bomb
threat made against the Wal-Mart on Central Avenue, in
Sylvania Township. A check of the area was conducted and
no explosives were located.
10/26/04 Assist the U.S. Secret
Service Presidential visit
Performed explosives sweep of the area where the
President's helicopter, Marine 1, was staged during his
visit to Toledo. 10/27/04 Assist the
U.S. Secret Service Presidential candidate visit
Performed a sweep for explosives at a hotel in
Toledo, where Presidential candidate Senator John Kerry
stayed in preparation for a local rally.
10/28/04 Assist the U.S. Secret Service
Presidential candidate visit
Performed a sweep for explosives at Savage Hall at
the University of Toledo, where Presidential candidate
Senator John Kerry attended a rally.
10/29/04 Assist the U.S. Secret Service Presidential
visit
The K-9 unit was responsible for providing security
at the Toledo Express Airport in Swanton, Ohio, where
Air Force One was staging. Sweeps of the entire airport
area were conducted prior to the Presidents arrival.
After the plane arrived, the unit was charged with
sweeping all vehicles and equipment prior to their
approach to Air Force One, as well as conducting
perimeter security prior to and during departure.
10/30/04 Assist the U.S. Secret Service Vice
President visit
Performed a sweep for explosives at the Toledo
Express Airport for the Vice President. The K-9 Unit was
also responsible for sweeping the staging area for Air
Force Two. After the plane had arrived, the unit was
charged with sweeping all vehicles and equipment prior
to their approach to Air Force Two, as well as
conducting perimeter security prior to and during
departure. The unit was also in charge of sweeping the
entire motorcade route from the airport to the hotel in
which the Vice President stayed.
10/31/04 Assist the U.S. Secret Service Vice
President visit
Performed a sweep for explosives at the Toledo
Express Airport for the Vice President. The K-9 Unit was
also responsible for sweeping the staging area for Air
Force Two. After the plane had arrived, the unit was
charged with sweeping all vehicles and equipment prior
to their approach to Air Force Two, as well as
conducting perimeter security prior to and during
departure. The unit was also in charge of sweeping the
entire motorcade route from the hotel to the airport in
preparation for a rally held there.
11/01/04 Assist the U.S. Secret Service VIP visit
Performed a sweep for explosives at Toledo Express
Airport in Swanton, Ohio where Mrs. Edwards arrived for
a rally in support of her husband, Sen. John Edwards.
